Treron permagnus
Japanese Name: リュウキュウアオバト
Chinese Name: 琉球綠鳩
English Name: Ryukyu Green Pigeon
Origin: Ryukyu Islands
The Ryukyu Green Pigeon was once considered a different subspecies of the Taiwan Red-headed Green Pigeon (Treron formosae). However, recent molecular studies support its classification as a distinct species. Unlike the Red-headed Green Pigeon, the Ryukyu Green Pigeon does not have a red-colored head.
There are two different subspecies of the Ryukyu Green Pigeon:
- Treron permagnus permagnus: Distribute from Yakushima to Okinawa Island.
- Treron permagnus medioximus: Distribute on Ishigaki Island, Iriomote Island, and Yonaguni Island.
