Scientific name: Hemidactylus frenatus
Japanese name: ホオグロヤモリ
Chinese name: 疣尾蜥虎
English name: Common house gecko
Origin: Tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. In Japan, it is distributed in the Ryukyu Islands south of Amami Oshima but can potentially move to other areas along with household furniture.

Ecology and description

Common house gecko is the most common gecko in Okinawa, often seen on building exteriors. Its most distinguishing feature is the many ringed, comb-like scales on its tail; however, the regenerated tail lacks these scales after the original tail is lost.

Building lights often attract insects, and Common house gecko frequently roams around buildings, making it very easy to observe.
