The Ryukyu Matrona Damselfly is a large damselfly species commonly seen in the Yambaru region. It was once considered a subspecies of Matrona basilaris, which is distributed in China and surrounding areas, but has since been recognized as a distinct species. This species is endemic to the Central Ryukyus and is found only on Okinawajima, Tokunoshima, and Amamioshima.

Males have striking metallic green bodies, while females are dark green with blackish wings. A distinctive white pseudopterostigma is visible near the tips of the female’s wings.
